Bring your own copy of Ultima V
OpenU5 ships the engine, not the game: it reads the tiles, maps and text from the copy you own — right here, in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, to our servers or anyone else's.
1 · Find your copy
An install, the GOG installer or your old floppies all work: what you drop
is the folder with BRIT.DAT inside. Open your case:

I have the folder
An installed copy, or something you already unpacked. If you can see
BRIT.DATandTILES.16inside, you're done here: go to step 2. -
I have the GOG installer
It's a single
.exe, so the files have to come out of it first. On Windows, run it and use the folder it creates. On macOS or Linux, unpack it withinnoextract: the game files end up inside the folder it creates, usuallyapp/. The name doesn't matter — find the one withBRIT.DATinside and drop that one. -
I have the floppies
You'll need a drive, and it's worth knowing that magnetic media from the late eighties hasn't always survived. Copy the contents of every disk into a single folder. If one won't read, buying it again is the practical route.

I don't have the game
It's still sold: the GOG Ultima 4+5+6 pack includes Ultima V and is DRM-free. We earn nothing from this link and have no relationship with GOG or Electronic Arts. It's here because it's the only route we know of that works and is legitimate.
OpenU5 does not bundle, host or redistribute game data. We can tell you where it's sold; we can't give you the files.
2 · Hand it to the browser
be it
ultima5/, app/ or anything else:
the one with BRIT.DAT inside · or click to pick it
